Since January 2018, I made the choice to convert my animal-laden diet to a plant-based diet. It started for two reasons. First, I wanted to make a change towards a healthier lifestyle. Second, I was opting to participate in the Daniel's Fast from January 8 until January 31. However, through the month, I learned I truly enjoyed being on a plant-based diet, and I felt so much better. Shocker! (cue the eye roll)
Even though animal products were always a part of my diet throughout the years, I dabbled on and off over the last ten years in removing dairy for health reasons, since my body cannot physically handle dairy. During those times of trial, I knew I functioned better without it, but I just LOVED dairy. Plus, never in a million years did I actually think I would enjoy a life eliminating all animal bi-products. Over the last few months, I, however, have found a new adventure in cooking. So, I've opened up this blog to track the recipes I create or modify from other individuals. It may also, from time to time, mention other topics associated with my life outside of cooking.
Through this adventure in eating plant-based, I have also discovered a new passion for the way animals are treated. This wasn't the reason I switched my diet, but it has now become part of why I choose to eat the way I do. What I have learned over the past three months is that I cannot support the inhumane ways animals are treated. I'm not anti-animal meat. Being a Christian, there is nothing in the Bible that condones eating animal products. However, I do believe God would not support the way people are treating creation so brutally just to sell meat and make money. Will I still eat meat or other animal bi-products? Periodically and under certain exceptions - those exceptions being that my husband personally hunted the meat in a humane manner or the eggs came from a local farmer, where I know the chickens are treated with care. I still, however, will not do any milk bi-products due to my body being unable to digest it properly.
This blog, however, is personally dedicated to plant-based, vegan recipes, since pretty much 100% of my diet is plant-based. I'm always on the lookout to try recipes that mimic my favorite recipes before choosing this lifestyle or just flat out taste delicious. My husband hasn't totally transitioned with me, but I am learning that as I create delectable recipes, he doesn't miss the original recipes bathed in animal bi-products. One day I think I may actually be able to totally convert him...... Okay maybe that is unrealistic, but at least I can make him enjoy the foods I cook.
